About this Blog

Why did I create this Blog?

I created this blog after one of my wife's friends had their flat broken into and had to subsequently make an insurance claim. The obvious distress of the break in (and the loss of irreplaceable items) was compounded by the insurance claims process which they then had to navigate to receive recompense. Many of the problems they had are as a result of general ignorance of their policy, and I do not say that with a view to insult or belittle them, most people simply do not read their policies and I fall into this category as much as anybody. The only difference being I work in the industry and for general products like, Home, Car and Pet Insurance I know what is in the policy, and what are the likely stumbling blocks to any future claim.

Who am I ?

And I don't mean that in an existential looking for answers kind of way. I am a Liability Adjuster working for a division of a large multi-national corporation who's business involves investigating, reporting and handling Insurance Claims for a very wide range of Insurers. Generally speaking I have handled most, if not all types of claims although of course every claim is unique in some way, be it the loss or just the temperament of the policyholder.

In the course of my career to date I have handled first party Domestic and Commercial Property/Motor claims as well as claims for loss of profit or increased cost of working. The largest claims I have ever handled on the Domestic front are £250,000 and Commercially £300 Million (which was the total loss of a large home brands overseas factory) so my base on knowledge in this regard as quite extensive.

Currently I investigate and handle third party Injury, Property/Motor Damage, Products and Clinical/Medical  Negligence claims. The value of the claims I investigate range from £250 through to Millions of pounds there is literally no upper limit to what I can be presented with.

What all this means is that I have a very wide base of knowledge in terms of claims and Insurance process's and thought that it would be good to share some of that knowledge with other people so that if you ever have to make a claim, or when you take out your next policy. You can be better prepared and understand what the Insurer or Loss Adjuster means when they tell you something.

What this Blog contains? (or will contain over time)

I have only just started this Blog (27/01/2013) so at the moment it is empty, over the next days, weeks and months if necessary I will slowly create articles which I think provide good clear information to people about what the wording, conditions and warranties in your policies really mean, and things to remember that you probably are not all that aware of. I will also provide information about protecting yourself from claims and any important changes to the law which I think could affect policies or claims.

And lastly the Disclaimer!

NOTHING WRITTEN OR POSTED IN THIS BLOG IS LEGAL ADVICE, OR ADVICE OF ANY KIND. ADDITIONALLY NOTHING I INCLUDE IN THIS BLOG INCLUDES PRIVILEGED OR CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION WHICH I HAVE RECEIVED FROM INSURERS OR MY EMPLOYERS.

IF YOU READ THIS BLOG AND TAKE ACTION BASED ON THE INFORMATION CONTAINED HEREIN YOU DO SO IN THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THE INFORMATION CONTAINED WITHIN THIS BLOG DOES NOT CONSTITUTE LEGAL ADVICE.

I WILL ACCEPT NO LIABILITY WHAT SO EVER FOR ANY CLAIMS, INJURIES, DAMAGES OR LOSSES WHICH OCCUR AS A RESULT OF OR IN RELATION TO ANYTHING WHICH YOU DO OR DO NOT DO AS A RESULT OF READING THIS BLOG.

Sorry for the shouty nature of the above but whilst I will always endeavor to provide clear, impartial accurate information within this Blog which I think will help people it is important to ensure that I am not left open to any costly legal actions, or litigation.
